Predictions So Far....

Although it's still pretty damn early in the season, and maybe my win-loss isn't ridiculously impressive just yet, reading through some previous posts, I've been dead on about a few things. So let's review (and pat myself on the back), shall we?
Keep in mind the "Week X" picks really means it was posted after the "Week X-1" games, so just remember that...

Like in this one.. posted in the Week 2 Picks post, when the Saints were only 0-1 and that loss was to the defending World Champ Colts:

"And I think the Saints are overrated this year. Mostly because of their "ride the emotions" and "feel good story" success last year. Their defense isn't great, their receivers are very thin after Colston, and they still haven't really figured out the best way to maximize their MacAllister/Bush backfield."

Bress has been awful. Their defense has been awful. MacAllister is done for the year. And they're 0-4.

Also from Week 2:
"The Raiders aren't as bad as people think."

They almost beat Denver on the road and are tied for first in the suddenly mediocre AFC West.

From Week 3:
"And Bulger is getting absolutely clobbered back there. Here's another prediction: he doesn't make it past Week 7."

Bulger and his broken ribs have been benched before Week 5. And the Rams could end up with the worst record in the league.

"As for the Chargers... not sure if I said this last week or not, but I see them underachieving by quite a bit this year. Expectations are way high. Too high. Yes, they have LT, but opponents gameplan for him now. And Phillip Rivers is still young and fairly unproven. But the X-Factor? Norv Turner at head coach. The dude has had like ZERO success as a head coach, he's supposed to start now? If football is a game of chess, Norv is still playing checkers."

I think the Chargers' woes have been well-enough chronicled by the "mainstream" media, so not much to add here.

  1. Yeah, there have been some good stuff there. Props.

I will sum up the Pats at Cincy. Pats won by 21, but truth be told, they didn't look all that good. In fact Cincy's lousy defense gave them some troubles (at first, until the Patriots beat up like 3 of their LB's)

Anyway, Seattle played well and has another test this weekend at Pitt - could be a great game.

    Pats latest line 16.5 at home against a 3 - 1 team...now thats SICK

  2. There's been a lot of talk of who's the best team in the NFL, and will put a rest to all the speculation right now, all of it.

One reader here will be happy.

After being able to watch enough of the NFC for the first 4 weeks, a performance this past weekend solified my answer. Let's start with GB - while they are on an impressive 4 - 0 start, this team lacks firepower, and the lack of a running game will catch up with Favre and bring this team back to earth. Next up there's Dallas, an impressive offense that can put up big numbers, but a huge weakness in their defense. This is a team that appears clear to me, to have a bad loss (read Oct 14th) and then begins to question themselves about how good they really are, which continues to spiral downhill to a 10 - 6 kinda season.

That leaves 1 team standing above the rest, because they have balance on offense and a good enough defense to be dangerous - and ladies and gentlemen, thats the Seattle Seahawks.

  3. EDIT: please note previous comment read NFL, where I meant NFC.

  4. Two words: You're on drugs.

Maybe if they beat the Stealers convincingly this week in Pitt. Maybe.. We can start talking about it.

Here's the thing: Their defense has been VERY good in all but 1 game - the Arizona game. And even in that game, Fitzgerald and Boldin didn't do the kind of damage they should have. But Edge James ran wild, and they didn't pressure Leinart.

So what was different in that game? Underrated and overlooked OLB LeRoy Hill missed the game with an injury. His backup was often out of position and missed tackles.

The Seahawks are at Pitt, then host the Saints next Sunday night, and then host the banged up Rams before their bye week.

If, IF they win all 3, go into their Week 8 bye at 6-1, and avoid any major injuries, THEN maybe I'll start getting excited.

And, while we're here, here's the rest of the schedule after that:
    @ Cleveland
    vs SF
    vs Chi
    @ StL
    @ Philly
    vs Ariz
    @ Carolina
    vs Balt
    @ Atl

With the Bears, Rams, and Eagles all sucking, a championship caliber team should be looking at 12-14 wins with that schedule.

  5. the Pitt game is intriguing, in fact, I would be surprised if they win it - at home they would've had a better chance.

But for the NFC - I believe they are the best. The last SF game showed me much.

The Pats haven't played anyone yet, and are a ridiculous 16+ point favorite this week. parity, schmarity

  6. The Browns are 2-2, by the way. Not 3-1.
